temeraire
I am reading - or more accurately trying to read - naomi novik's temeraire, which is a historical fantasy. Hark back to the napoleonic wars, but this time they have an air force (insert drum roll here) of dragons!! It is an interesting premise, but not sure how it will develop.
There is an amazing book sale on now, with everything going for $5, including good stuff like house of blue mangoes and the english patient. It seems like every other book was a nominee for some prize or other, with blurbs like Great Debut, Essential Reading, Lyrical, A Writer For Our Times et al. It does make you depressed, if you are in the writing trade, that even people who CAN write have their works in the remainder bin.
Among other things, I picked up Green Gold, which is a book about the history of tea.
Finally saw V for Vendetta, and my friends who didn't read the comic thought it was great, not dumbed down. I sorta agree with them, but it is hard to stop comparing it with the comic, which should be Essential Reading. Currently listening to Antony and the Johnsons, which was featured on the soundtrack.
